Terms of service

Last updated: May 9, 2026

1. Overview

These terms of service (“terms”) govern your use of the SnapGuide mobile application and the website at snapgui.de. By joining the waitlist, downloading, purchasing, or using SnapGuide, you agree to these terms. SnapGuide is operated under the jurisdiction of the United States.

2. Description of service

SnapGuide is a mobile application that recognises landmarks from a photo you take and plays back a short, hand-written audio story (typically around two minutes) about that landmark. Recognition runs on our servers because the catalogue covers more than 47,000 landmarks worldwide; the photo itself is processed and immediately discarded. See our privacy policy for full details.

SnapGuide is intended as an entertainment and education companion. It is not a navigation tool, safety device, or guarantee of historical accuracy. Our writers do their best, but stories are stories.

3. License

3.1 License grant — Founding 500 (lifetime)

If you are one of the first 500 customers to purchase the Founding 500 plan, you receive a perpetual, non-transferable license to use SnapGuide on devices you personally own. This license includes access to every landmark and story we publish, at no additional cost, for as long as SnapGuide operates as a service. The license is bound to the account used at first activation.

3.2 License grant — paid passes

Day Pass, Trip Pass, and Wanderer grant you a non-transferable license to use SnapGuide for the duration purchased (24 hours, 14 days, or 365 days respectively), starting from the moment of activation. Once the duration ends, full access to story playback ends.

3.3 Account binding

Each license is bound to a single account on first activation. You may use that account on multiple personal devices. If you need to recover or transfer your account, contact us at hello@snapgui.de.

3.4 Restrictions

You may not:

  • Resell, redistribute, sublicense, or share your license or account.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app.
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the audio stories or written content.
  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that interferes with other users.

4. Pricing and payment

Pricing is listed on snapgui.de/#pricing and may change at any time. Price changes do not affect existing license holders for the duration of their current pass, and never affect Founding 500 lifetime licenses. All payments are processed securely through Stripe; we do not store your card details.

5. Refund policy

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all purchases. If SnapGuide isn’t for you, email hello@snapgui.de within 30 days of your purchase and we will issue a full refund. No questions asked. After 30 days, paid passes are non-refundable for the remaining duration.

6. Privacy and data

Your privacy matters. Photos you take inside SnapGuide are sent to our servers solely to identify the landmark and are discarded immediately after recognition. We do not retain your photos, sell your data, or run third-party advertising or trackers. Full details are in our privacy policy.

7. Acceptable use

Use SnapGuide responsibly. Do not point your phone at strangers, children, or restricted property. Respect local laws and the rules of sites you visit (some museums and religious sites prohibit photography). We reserve the right to suspend accounts that abuse the service, including but not limited to attempts to bypass licensing, automated scraping, or generating excessive traffic.

8. Availability and platforms

SnapGuide is being released for iOS and Android. A working camera and an active internet connection (cellular, eSIM, or Wi-Fi) are required for recognition and story playback. We do not guarantee compatibility with every device or operating system version, and from time to time the service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance or due to issues outside our control.

9. Limitation of liability

SnapGuide is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the application — including but not limited to incorrect landmark identification, inaccuracies in story content, missed travel plans, or any decision you make based on information surfaced in the app. SnapGuide is not a substitute for professional guides, official signage, or local advice.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United States.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the application or website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Contact

Built this after my mom asked about my Prague trip and all I could say was "the buildings were… old."
